Job Summary

The Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) at University Mohammed VY Polytechnic (UM6P), Laayoune City, is seeking a highly motivated Technician in Biological Science and Curator of the algal collection. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting research activities related to macro and microalgae isolation and maintaining our collections. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to scientific research and conservation efforts in the field of algal biotechnology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the algal Culture Collection, including cataloging, organizing, and inventorying microalgal strains.
  • Perform routine maintenance of algal cultures, including subculturing, propagation, and cryopreservation techniques.
  • Monitor the health and purity of algal cultures, ensuring genetic stability and preventing contamination.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the integrity and authenticity of the culture collection.
  • Assist scientists and researchers in conducting experiments and investigations involving microalgae.
  • Prepare culture media, inoculate cultures, and monitor growth parameters of microalgal strains.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments, assays, and analyses to support research projects focused on microalgal biology, physiology, and biotechnology.
  • Collect, record, and analyze experimental data, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with researchers, scientists, and students to facilitate access to algal cultures and provide technical support.

About the Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) – UM6P Laayoune:

The Research Center on Algal Biotechnology (RCAB) is a new component of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). It is located in Laayoune City and constitutes a structure of practical-based research with a vision of offering versatile infrastructure for cultivation and conversion of algae based on merging biotechnology, environmental science, and sustainability. Driven by innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the center aims to bridge research and practical applications for the development of a large spectrum of applications in agriculture, cosmetical, pharmaceuticals, feed and food industry, bioremediation, climate change mitigation, and renewable energy production.

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory or research environment, with a focus on microalgae or microbial cultures.

  • Knowledge of algal biology, physiology, and taxonomy, with experience in culturing and maintaining microalgal strains.
