RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To offer pupils individual and group counselling and support
  • To conduct individual and group assessment to evaluate pupils’ cognitive abilities and socialemotional needs
  • To work with a diverse range of issues including bereavement and loss, transition, eating disorders and self-harm, depression, anger management and erratic behaviour, abuse of any kind, anxiety and fears
  • To provide crisis intervention and support to pupils, families and staff in emergencies such as incident of violence, physical, psychological trauma or sudden adverse circumstances at school
  • To work closely with senior school counsellor in providing counselling for both senior and junior school students as well as to parents and teachers
  • To liaise and attend meetings with Learning Support departments
  • To provide consultation to staff whose role it is to support pupils in distress
  • To liaise with the Housemasters and Deputy Head on key pupil issues requiring further intervention/support
  • To network with personnel from other agencies with a view to easing referrals and accessing specialist consultants
  • To keep suitable case records on the counselling in a secure place
  • To attend regular supervision with a suitably qualified supervisor
  • To work in consultation with the School child protection policies and the DSL
  • To provide information on the counselling service, the role of the counsellor and the boundaries of confidentiality to pupils, staff and parents
  • To report back on a regular basis on numbers using the service and give a general overview of the types of problems with which the users of the service are presenting
  • To perform duties within the codes of practice and ethics recommended by the BACP, UKCP or equivalent organisation
  • To devise and, where appropriate, deliver a programme of training to support and develop the counselling service
  • To contribute to the Peer Listeners Scheme – Including supporting the Peer Mentors
  • To run drop-in session three morning a week
  • To run workshops for pupils, parents and staff
  • To lead themed assemblies to Senior School and Junior School
  • To run workshops with parents (online or offline) on key issues (once a term)
  • To review and evaluate the service
Profile recherché
  • Minimum of 2 year’s post qualification experience
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience of facilitating groups
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Skills and Knowledge

  • An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people
  • Knowledge of cognitivebehavioural, psychodynamic, play therapy and/or other techniques
  • Knowledge of assessment tools to evaluate pupils' cognitive abilities, academic achievement and social-emotional functioning
