We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Internal Audit to lead the internal audit function at our mining company in Morocco. This role is instrumental in ensuring the company’s financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with regulations, with the ultimate goal of achieving Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance in the near future. Additionally, the Manager will oversee Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) audits to ensure the company meets its sustainability and corporate responsibility goals. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management to assess risks, evaluate controls, and implement strategies that drive accountability and transparency across all areas.

The Manager, Internal Audit will be based in Casablanca and will report directly to the President or other executives as may be designated and will also follow the directives from Internal Audit department at the Head Office of the company in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, document, implement, and maintain effective internal accounting, financial and control systems in line with industry best practice.
• Provide internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR).
• Develop frameworks and guidance on enterprise risk management, internal control, and fraud deterrence.
• Provide strategic review of internal controls by performing ad-hoc audits and provide recommendations to members of the executive management teams.
• Develop actionable plans to address identified issues, ensuring timely resolution and continuous improvement.
• Ensure appropriate corporate accounting policies and procedures in place and interpreted/applied proactively.
• Monitor financial and IT systems and take corrective actions.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
• Build and maintain a strong internal control environment aligned with the Company’s goal of achieving SOX compliance.
• Assist in the preparation of reports to senior management and the Audit Committee.
• Develop and implement an ESG audit framework to assess compliance with the company’s sustainability and corporate responsibility commitments.
• Conduct audits of environmental performance, social responsibility initiatives, and governance practices to ensure alignment with industry standards and stakeholder expectations.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of ESG-related controls and recommend improvements to enhance performance and reporting accuracy.
• Stay updated on evolving ESG regulations and best practices, ensuring the company remains proactive in its sustainability efforts.
• Other duties as required.

Profile recherché
  • A degree from a business school or an engineering school, in audit, finance or management control
  • 8 to 10 years experience in audit in an industrial sector
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in French and English, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
  • Controls and compliance: deep expertise in establishing and maintaining internal controls risk management practices and audit readiness
  • Current knowledge of audit practices and risk management programs.
  • Current knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Application of enterprise risk management, compliance and internal controls within a diverse, publicly traded company is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the NI 52-109 principles and internal control over financial reporting (ICFR).
  • Excellent knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and timelines
  • A flexible problem solver who has an “We’re all in this together” attitude.
  • Knowledge of technical and professional principles and skills related to extractive industry accounting.
  • Production, construction or manufacturing experience is a great asset.
  • Strong belief in conducting business ethically.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a deep understanding of capital projects, governance, SOX, ESG and internal controls within the mining sector. On-site mine exposure experience is an asset, and experience with NI 52-109 is preferred.
  • The ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a wide range of people will be the key to your success in this role. We are seeking a well-rounded Manager, Internal Audit who is hands-on, but who can also see the big picture.
