UM6P Research infrastructure management office is currently in search of a Core Lab engineer for the electron microscopy platform. We seek candidates with extensive experience in designing and conducting experiments using SEM, FIB, AFM, RAMAN, and TEM instruments, and who excel in various areas, such as sample preparation, assay development and method selection, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, and proficiency with software interfaces. Additionally, a background in various SEM sample preparation and the ability to tailor methods to customer needs is an advantage. Strong communication and analytical abilities are paramount for this role, as they play a crucial part in the successful execution of responsibilities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reception, processing, and classification of requests for the electron microscopy platform.
- Handling of samples to be analyzed: storage, conditioning, preparation, etc.
- Selection and definition of the sample preparation techniques and methods to best meet customer needs.
- Implementation and performance of analyses on the EDX spectrometer.
- Ensure traceability of experiments: organize and archive data.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain quality control records to ensure efficient lab process management.
- Advice and guidance for users.
- Participate in the platform maintenance, control, and calibration operations.
- Define and update the consumable stock of the platform (solvents, standards, small equipment, etc.).
- Apply health and safety rules related to the use of chemicals, cryogenic liquids, and measuring equipment.
- Participate in the platform certification process.
- Participate in the preparation of the department’s events (workshops, seminars, presentations…)
- Organize and provide workshop sessions for the students and the research community.
Profile recherché
Required Qualifications:
- Master/Engineer degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in solid SEM and STEM or a related field.
- Experience with various SEM analyses
- Experience with various sample preparations for SEM analyses (coating, polishing, surface metallization).
- Familiarity with lab safety protocols and regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills (time and priority management)
- Excellent communication skills (French and English).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
